Web3 isn’t just about technology; it’s about opportunity. We’re seeing more independent women thrive as traders, investors, and innovators, rewriting the rules of financial freedom. Today, we spotlight one such inspiring story: Oge Sussan, a determined female crypto trader whose journey shows how discovering crypto trading can transform lives, foster independence, and contribute to a more inclusive Web3 ecosystem.
Q: Sussan, thank you for sharing your story with us on International Women’s Day. Can you tell us how you first got into the crypto space?
It started out of necessity. A few years ago, I was doing an executive assistant job that barely covered basics, with limited ways to grow savings or escape the cycle. I kept hearing about crypto from friends online, how people made money trading Bitcoin, Solana, and altcoins. I was skeptical at first, but I decided to learn.
I started really small back in 2023, when the naira was losing value fast, and my salary wasn’t stretching far enough anymore. I had only about ₦70,000 saved from side gigs, so I couldn’t risk much. I spent weeks reading free YouTube tutorials, joining Nigerian Telegram groups for beginners, and scrolling Twitter for tips.
Eventually, I created a crypto account and started trading. My very first trade was jumping on a hype around a meme coin someone called in our group chat, nothing huge, maybe PEPE or a similar one that was pumping that week.
It’s been a rewarding journey ever since.
Q: What challenges did you face as a woman entering this space, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest doubt was from others and myself. Crypto is often seen as a “man’s world,” with lots of technical talk and volatility that can feel intimidating. As a woman, I also juggled family expectations and time constraints. But Web3’s beauty is its openness: no one asks for your gender or background to trade. I joined online communities, followed female traders for inspiration, and focused on education.
I learned risk management the hard way through small losses, but those taught me discipline.
Q: How has crypto trading changed your life financially?
It gave me real financial freedom. Before, my income was fixed and unpredictable with rising costs. Trading crypto allowed me to earn consistently through smart strategies; airdrops, spot trade calls, some futures for higher gains when confident.
Over time, my profits grew enough to achieve things I once thought impossible. I bought my own car outright, no loans hanging over me. And I’m recently started building my own house.
Crypto helped me control my finances, invest in my future, and even support my family without depending on anyone else.
Q: In what ways do you see crypto promoting financial inclusion, especially for women in Web3?
Crypto removes so many traditional barriers. No need for bank approval, credit checks, or high minimums. In places like Nigeria and across Africa, where banking access can be limited for women, crypto platforms let anyone with internet access start trading, earn, and save in stablecoins or grow assets.
It’s empowering; women can bypass restrictive systems, remit money cheaply, or build wealth independently. I’ve seen friends do the same: one started a small business with her gains, another paid for education. Web3 levels the playing field, and more women joining means more diverse perspectives, stronger communities, and true inclusion.
Q: What advice would you give to other women considering crypto trading?
Start small and educate yourself; don’t rush in. Use reliable exchanges like MEXC for security and variety. Focus on long-term growth over get-rich-quick schemes.
Join women-led crypto groups for support; they’re game-changers. Most importantly, believe in your ability. Crypto gave me control when I felt I had none. If I can go from beginner to building my own home, so can you.
Happy International Women’s Day, let’s keep pushing for a more inclusive Web3! Sussan’s story is a powerful reminder that Web3 is for everyone. At MEXC, we’re committed to supporting women traders with secure tools, diverse assets, and global access.
